PRESIDENT'S SPEECH

ACANigeria President Architect Tayo Babalakin Acceptance Speech

Delivered On The 6th Annual General Meeting Held at Southern Sun Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos
Tuesday, 10th December, 2013

The immediate Past President, Architect Fred Coker, members of the Executive Committee, fellow Architects, our dear sponsors, distinguish ladies and gentlemen.

It is with high sense of humility, dedication and responsibility that I gracefully accept my election as the 4th President of the Association of Consulting Architects Nigeria (ACANigeria), 2013-2015. Being one of the founding members of the association and having served successful as Secretary and Vice President, I believe that I am equipped to continue the excellent work done by my predecessors to stair the Association to greater heights.

My intension is to build on the solid foundation laid by the Past Presidents, Architect O.P.A Ladega, Architect Roti Delano and Architect Fred Coker to create an enduring legacy for the Association by ensuring its position both nationally and internationally is enhanced; therefore the main focus of the new Executive Committee, 2013-2015, will be geared towards the following:

  1. The Exco will seek to expand new frontiers nationally and globally, by increasing our membership base from the current 60 firms to 120 firms.
  1. The Exco will pursue national integration and co-operation with the Nigerian Institute of Architects and corresponding Associations in Allied Professions, such as ACEN, ACQS.
We will also collaborate with international sister associations.
  1. Our commitment to control and regulate the infiltration of Foreign Architects will be strengthened through our cooperation with relevant authorities to ensure that the welfare of our members is given appropriate consideration.
  1. The development of our newly established Bookshop and Library as well as the regular circulation of the Newsletter to disseminate information will be conscientiously pursued.

We will also utilize the media to publicize our activities.

  1. The Exco through its members will contribute their required quota to reduce the effect

of the global warming by “going green” in terms of culture, buildings and surroundings.

In conclusion, I will like to solicit the support of all Executive members, fellow members, friends and associates to ensure a dynamic, fruitfully rewarding and successful tenure of the current executive committee.   In addition, I wish to express our sincere gratitude to all our sponsors for their contribution towards the success of this Annual General Meeting.

Finally permit me to use this opportunity to send my seasonal greetings and the very best wishes for Christmas and a happy 2014 to you and your families.

Thank you all and God bless.
